Sometimes, less can be more when it comes to production. And in the case of Ian Kippax Matthews’ Fallen Leaves, it is a lot more. The Australian singer/songwriter certainly does not overproduce on this record. He favours a rootsy rugged production style, which serves him well on earthy tracks. Matthews avoids slickness, offering an inviting, down home collection of roots rock and folk-rock………..organic…..a no-nonsense roots album….consistently warm sound…..consistently engaging….

…
The recording choices for this album, live to tape, only enhances Matthews’ leather jacket wearing, coffee cup in hand musical style, complete with earthy vocals, haunting piano backgrounds and alternately bluesy, gritty and folky guitar/banjo work by both Parkinson and Matthews.
The opening track “Waiting” with a flawless acoustic rhythm guitar entrance, layered percussion and enchanting lead guitar with Matthews’ fantastic, rough-around-the-edges voice delivers (no surprise) a classic for starters…………..
………the epitome of IKM’s magic……his ability to transform the ordinary into something sparkling…………the heart in this album is unmistakable……..another home run.
I look forward to more.
